          Graduate
          Showcase

Introduction

This page contains carefully-selected work samples from my time in the MAET program. These artifacts have been specifically categorized for easier accessibility, and they all showcase the knowledge and skills I have honed and integrated into my existing skillset as an educator and designer.

The eight pieces are placed in one of three categories: design, creativity, and learning. They were chosen based on what I believe are important aspects of instructional design and technology. These themes are woven throughout the showcase as evidenced by my artifacts.

Design

A Survey on Equitable Online Teaching

I learned and used Qualtrics, an experience management company that has market research software, to design a survey for educational professionals to share their thoughts on equitable teaching practices in online teaching. I took time in developing the questions so that they were as concisely and clearly worded as possible. The process of building the survey required intensive iterative effort to ensure that it is easily navigable and accessible to the target audience

Wicked Problem-Solving

This video is a multimodal summative presentation on a wicked problem in education: equitable teaching practices in the online setting. Not only is this presentation multimodal, it also illustrates the depth of the issue through my research, data collection and analysis. At the end of the video, I present a potential solution to the problem that I created based on the information gathered from various sources. This multi-week project demonstrates how I follow the design thinking process to create a practical solution to a complex real-world problem.

Using Design Thinking to Create a Prototype

As a middle school teacher, my role involved taking care of my students' emotional well-being which deteriorated for many of them during the pandemic. In the video below, I explain how I used the five steps of design thinking to design and test a prototype that practically addresses this problem with a focus on prevention.

Creativity

Explaining Copyright via Remix Culture

This is a short video I created to explain the concept of copyright while demonstrating the application of remix culture - the ways in which media can be (legally) reused, recombined and adapted to create new media. This creation displays my creative use of diverse types of media and understanding of copyright and fair use.

Speculative Lesson & Assessment Plan

This career-experience project and assessment plan was inspired from my time teaching the middle school AVID elective, an academic support program for K-12. Taking an idea for a project that is not realistically feasible, I developed a "speculative" plan that disregards all constraints. The plan includes learning objectives, details the methods of assessment and provides alternative approaches for increased accessibility and flexibility. This is an example of how I am able think innovatively and beyond the usual practical confines.

Sketchnote Video on Questions

In this video created with VideoScribe, I illustrated my brainstorming experience with the goal of forming an essential question about a wicked problem in education. This creation not only shows my creative thinking process but is evidence of how I do so in an engaging format.

Learning

21st Century Learning

Using Camstasia, I created this informative video to highlight and the specific skills that are crucial to achieving success as a learner and professional in the 21st century. The video includes a variety of real examples from my teaching experience and ones that relevant to my professional goals as well. I also showcase my ability to learn a new video editing software and utilize its features to create a product with it.

The lesson plan below is a lesson I previously taught to 7th graders. I upgraded it to include teaching practices, learning activities and assessments that help build 21st century skills as explained in the video.

Online Teaching Manifestos

Below are two versions of manifestos on online teaching. I was intentional about writing each manifesto in its own distinct style while keeping my personal flair as a writer. There was 5-month period of growth and learning between the two versions. Therefore, each piece of writing is a manifestation of my beliefs, perceptions, and understanding regarding education and online teaching during those times.
